New input into FOOD2030 and Farm to Fork Strategy
Recently, two new reports were published that feed into developments on the future of our food systems. The EU Think Tank – part of FIT4FOOD2030, published a policy brief with regard to the Farm to Fork Strategy. The brief calls for innovative approaches to the Farm to Fork Strategy to provide practical answers to the questions on how a shift towards healthier and more sustainable diets can be facilitated, and on how to empower the actors in the food system to adopt more sustainable practices. Such answers need new trans-disciplinary, multi-actor and participatory Research and Innovation (R&I) approaches that contribute to more coherent, cross policy-sector food initiatives.
Also available now is an outcome report of the ‘FOOD 2030 Pathways: Future Research & Innovation Needs in view of the transition to sustainable, healthy, safe and inclusive food systems’ workshop held on March 4th 2020, by the European Commission. The workshop gathered 60 experts and European Commission policy makers to identify and prioritise concrete R&I needs, in view of the new Horizon Europe programme. The ten ‘Pathways for Action’ that are being developed under the Food 2030 initiative range from ‘Governance and systems change’ to ‘The microbiome world’ and ‘Food from the oceans and fresh water resources’.
