New in-kind ERA-NET Cofund Action to deliver geological service for Europe has opened Call for project ideas
48 National and regional Geological Survey Organisations (GSOs) from over 30 European countries have joined forces to develop an ERA-NET Action: "Establishing the European Geological Surveys Research Area to deliver a Geological Service for Europe" (GeoERA) in which projects will be funded by in-kind institutional resources, with co-funding from the EU.
The overall goal of GeoERA is to integrate the participants’ information and knowledge on subsurface energy, water and raw material resources to support sustainable use of the subsurface in addressing Europe’s grand challenges. GeoERA has launched a joint call for project ideas on April 7th to fund transnational research projects that will aim to support 1) a more integrated and efficient management and 2) more responsible and publicly accepted, exploitation and use of the subsurface.
The call has a planned budget of 30.3 M€, of which 10 M€ is allocated by the EC. The transnational projects selected in the joint call will be implemented by the GeoERA participants themselves, who provide their contribution in-kind. The joint call will cover the applied geosciences, addressing the following four themes: A) Geo-Energy, B) Groundwater, C) Raw Materials, and D) Information Platform. The call will follow a two-stage application procedure. The (stage one) call for project ideas will will provide input for the stage two call text that will request project proposals. The call for project ideas is open until 7 June 2017. The call for Project Proposals (stage two) is expected to open in October 2017.
