Executive summary of report on synergy and mismatch analysis in research and innovation for climate services

The JPI Climate and the ERA-NET Cofund “European Research Area for Climate Services” (ERA4CS) have published an executive summary which presents the essence of a research and innovation for climate services report on the synergy and mismatch analysis which was conducted for the ERA4CS community, JPI Climate and the European Commission.

The aim of the synergy and mismatch analysis was to identify research and knowledge gaps, including those related to quality standards and quality control for climate services, and to identify the complementarities, redundancies and synergies between national, European an international programmes or initiatives.

The findings led to the identification of a number of challenges and opportunities where JPI Climate could and should be playing a role. They form the basis of four key recommendations to increase the effectiveness, relevance and impact of climate service research and innovations:

  1. Strengthen cooperation on climate service research and innovation to maximise effectiveness and impact
  2. Strengthen the alignment of research and innovation supporting climate services to maximise effectiveness and impact
  3. Enhance the societal relevance of research and innovation supporting climate services by intensifying its efforts to promote interdisciplinary research and innovation
  4. Collaborate to establish a stronger global position for JPI Climate in research and innovation supporting climate services

These recommendations are worked in more detail in the executive summary.
