Urban Europe’s projects met in Oslo

On May 20th, the projects in the Sustainable and Liveable Cities and Urban Areas call, held their Kick-off meeting at the Research Council of Norway in Oslo. The meeting invited projects, stakeholders and representatives from European and Chinese funding agencies to discuss expectations and share knowledge. The projects presented themselves and were engaged in in-depth discussions to discover shared interests and approaches to communication and collaboration with partners. The next day, the Smart Urban Futures (ENSUF ERA-NET) call held their mid-term meeting in which project participants shared their first results and engaged in interactive workshops discussing ideas, common challenges, communication and exploitations support activities. Participants were invited to join in each others’ meetings, thus enabling the opportunity to engage and connect with each other. Dutch researchers are participating in projects in both calls.

The Sustainable and Liveable Cities and Urban Areas call was jointly organised in 2018 by nine European partners of JPI Urban Europe and NSFC, to encourage collaboration between researchers from Chinese and European universities, research institutes, research and technology organisations (including municipal research institutes), cities and city planning departments, as well as European companies, to develop knowledge, integrated solutions and decision support tools to a wide spectrum of urban challenges. The ERA-NET Cofund Smart Urban Futures (ENSUF) launched their call in 2015 for cities and civil society in Europe to address urgent and long-term challenges by co-creating ideas and projects.
