Research starts in long-term Mediterranean partnership PRIMA

PRIMA, the partnership for inclusive, healthy and prosperous Mediterranean societies, aims at building research and innovation capacities and developing knowledge and common innovative solutions for agro-food systems, to make them sustainable, for integrated water provision and management in the Mediterranean area. Furthermore those systems’ provision and management needs to become more climate resilient, efficient, cost-effective and environmentally and socially sustainable, as well as contributing to solving water scarcity, food security, nutrition, health, well-being and migration problems upstream. Nineteen countries committed to the initiative.

At the beginning of 2018, PRIMA launched calls in two sections, one being the ‘2018 Multi-topic call’.  Under this call, eighteen projects have been selected for funding, with a total indicative budget of EUR 30 million. Projects range from pest control research to irrigation measures to genetic breeding for resilience, all with a focus in the Mediterranean area. A number of additional projects has been included in a reserve list that will need confirmation for funding by the relevant funding agencies.
