BiodivERsA awards Excellence and Impact Prize to transnational research on Urban Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services

The  Prize for Excellence and Impact is awarded to the URBES (Urban Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) research project*, a joint research collaboration funded by BiodivERsA under its 2010-11 call on "Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services and their Valuation". This prize acknowledges the excellent, pioneering research performed in URBES. The project demonstrated, for the first time at this scale, the importance and the value of ecosystem services and nature-based solutions provided by urban biodiversity in European cities, enabling the authorities to work with these concepts in their urban planning strategies. As part of the Prize, the URBES project had the opportunity to present its work in an animated video:  "What’s the role of nature? Scientists involved in the URBES project inspire sustainable urban planning for people and nature"

From 2018 on, the BiodivERsA Prize for Excellence and Impact will be awarded on a yearly basis. The price showcases BiodivERsA-funded projects that have produced excellent science with concrete impacts for policy and/or society.
